eng Measurement of the energy balance in the spark igniting the dust dispersion The article deals with measurement of the electric energy of a capacitive spark delivered to the spark gap from the circuit and its difference from nominal energy E of the spark given by E = 0,5C·U2. The aim of the paper is to show the level of difference between nominal energy and energy really delivered to the spark gap. In accordance with EN13821:2002, a high voltage relay and two electrode system was used for the spark generation in this case. The voltage was measured using two high voltage probes placed on both side of the spark gap as close to the electrodes as possible and one current probe. Two high voltage probes allow not only for the measurement of the energy delivered to the spark gap, but also for the measurement of the electric energy dissipated in the spark gap mostly as a heat. The capacitance value used was 65 nF, which together with the charge voltage ranging in the interval of 8 and 14 kV produced nominal energies of the spark in the interval between 2,1 and 6 J. Two voltage and one current signals were recorded by oscilloscope. Measured signals were integrated and data were compared. Data shows that about 44,1 % of the nominal energy is delivered to the spark gap. About 32,1 % of that energy delivered is dissipated in the spark gap which represents only 14,1 % of nominal energy. It means that if e.g. 2 J is set for the MIE test and believed to be a spark energy then only 0,88 J comes to spark gap and 0,28 J is dissipated as the heat potentially causing ignition of the dust.
