eng Dicyanopyrazine Catalysts Enabling The New Photoredox Reaction Two series of dicyanopyrazine photoredox catalysts has been designed and smoothly synthesized via cross-coupling reactions and nucleophilic substitution. Fundamental properties of these compounds were investigated by NMR, X-ray analysis, absorption and emission spectra, electrochemistry, and also theoretically by DFT calculations. The X-ray analysis revealed twisted structures of DPZ catalysts with a direct connection between the pyrazine and thiophene rings. The longest-wavelength absorption maxima of the catalysts cover a broad range of 300-500 nm. The position of the longest-wavelength band is clearly a function of the catalyst’s structure. Type of the appended substituent, composition and planarity of the pi-system play the most important role. Photoredox catalytic properties of all catalysts were examined in annulation reactions. With the portfolio of pyrazine photoredox catalysts in hand, one can easily choose the catalyst best fitting the requirements of the given photoredox process. dicyanopyrazine; photoredox reaction; DFT calcultaions
