eng White light emission of pyrimidine chromophores: controlled protonation and long lived intramolecular charge transfer fluorescence Pyrimidine push-pull chromohpores are interesting materials because of their luminescence properties. These chromophores can be easily and reversibly protonated at the nitrogen atoms of the heterocyclic ring and this can cause dramatic color changes. White and multicolor photoluminescence both in solution and in the solid state can be obtained by an accurate control of the amount of acid. This with a suitable design these compounds have potential applications in the development of colorimetric pH sensors and the fabrication of WOLEDs based on only one emissive material. On the other hand we have recently designed 9,9-dimethylacridan substituted phenylstyrylpyrimidines exhibiting long lived intramolecular charge transfer fluorescence and aggregation induced emission. Some of these compounds revealed dual emission in polar solvent and in thin film covering the whole visible spectrum with chromacity coordinates not far from pure white light. dimethylacridan; fluorescence; AID; chromophore
