eng 2D (Cyano)vinylene-linked covalent organic frameworks Since their discovery in 2005, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) represent a rapidly developing class of organic porous materials with enormous application potential in sensing, catalysis, organic electronics, or energy-related applications. Owing to their regular structural arrangement in multiple dimensions and the strength of the covalent bonds connecting particular moieties, they offer extraordinary physicochemical properties tuneable towards the desired function. Two series of covalent organic frameworks based on 2,2',2''-(benzene-1,3,5-triyl)triacetonitrile (BTAN) and 2,4,6-trimethyl-1,3,5-triazine (TMT) node building unit, respectively, and their non-polymeric analogues (model compounds) have been designed. A variety of (hetero)aromatic aldehydes were used as reaction partners. The contribution will discuss the preparation of the model compounds and the synthetic pathways leading to the materials of different crystallinity. covalent organic framework
