eng DPZ mediated cross-coupling reaction towards biaryls Biaryls are important building blocks for pharmacochemistry, agrochemistry as well as organic electronics and photonics. Nowadays, metal-catalysed cross-coupling reactions are the simplest and most utilized way to synthesize them. On the other hand, metal-free photochemical reactions represent inexpensive and environmentally acceptable way to prepare them. Hence, we present herein dicyanopyrazine (DPZ) mediated construction of biaryls by cross-coupling reaction of (hetero)aryl halides (e.g. substituted benzene, pyri(mi)dine, imidazole, thiazole, and oxazole) with a suitable radical trap such as 1H-pyrrole, N-methylpyrrole, pyridine or 1,1´-diphenylethene (Scheme 1). Fundamental structure-activity relationships are discussed and a plausible mechanism is proposed based on a variety of blank experiments, UV-Vis spectrometry and electrochemical measurements. dicyanopyrazine; biaryls; cross-coupling
