eng Experimental Investigation of the Influence of Shock Tube Parameters on Reaction Propagation Shock tubes are used for flame transmission in non-electric detonators (also known as Nonel). This work deals with the influence of shock tube parameters, such as geometry and filling, on flame propagation inside the shock tube. Shock tubes for experiments were made of transparent PMMA hollow tubes of different diameters. The tubes were coated on the inner walls with layer of standard shock tube mixture of fine aluminium and HMX powders. High-speed imaging techniques were used to capture propagation of the reaction propagation. From the records, velocity profiles and transitions of reaction propagation were obtained. The results were then compared with commercially available three-layer plastic shock tube with an inner diameter of 1,3 mm used in the mining industry. The results of this study suggest that more than one reaction mechanism is involved in the operation of the shock tube. These findings add substantially to our understanding of the shock tube reaction mechanism and further shock tube development.
