eng Characterization of Columns for Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) is and increasingly used method, which combines the benefits of aqueous-organic mobile phase with separation based on normal phase principles. This technique is effective for the separation of polar compounds and it is widely applied in the field of pharmacy, proteomics, metabolomics, food analysis, bioanalysis or environmental analysis. Nowadays, more and more commercial HPLC columns are available on the market and therefore it is more complicated to choose an appropriate column for separation of target analytes. In our research, we used ten commercial columns for HILIC, which were characterized in terms of the retention and selectivity. Representatives of common polar substances as nucleosides, nucleic bases, and homologous series of ketones were used.
