eng Semi-catalytic trifluoromethylation using tetrakis(trifluoromethylcopper) The trifluoromethyl group is included in many pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Direct trifluoromethylation via transition metal catalysis can proceed through nucleophilic, electrophilic, or free radical processes. Organocopper(III) species are considered key intermediates in various reactions. These complexes are typically thermally unstable and difficult to isolate.2 The trifluoromethyl group is capable of stabilizing organocopper(III) species. Trifluoromethyl copper(III) complexes can be used for C–H trifluoromethylation of arenes, alkenes, alkynes and alkanes. One of the most investigated compound in this area is [Cu(CF3)4][Bu4N], which is believed to be inert as a trifluoromethylation agent. Hereby we report the first use of the [Cu(CF3)4][Bu4N] for trifluoromethylation reactions. Catalysis; trifluoromethylation; tetrakis(trifluoromethylcopper); synthesis
