eng Photodeuteration Of Aldehydes Catalyzed By DPZ Deuteration of chemical compounds becomes of great importance in pharmaceutical, materials and synthetic chemistry. Deuterated drugs and biochemical compounds are currently essential for monitoring mechanisms and metabolic pathways. Due to metallic free structure, low cost, and low environmental impact, dicyanopyrazine photoredox catalysts (DPZs) are ideal catalysts for visible light mediated photoredox modification of biologically active substrates. In this work, DPZ based photocatalysts were used for photodeuteration of variously substituted aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes. The extent of deuteration using three DPZ photocatalysts was systematically investigated along with a set of blank experiments. These experiments combined with transient absorption spectroscopy and quantum-chemical calculations allowed to propose plausible mechanism of photochemical deuteration aldehydes catalysed by DPZ photocatalysts. dikyanopyrazine; photoredox catalysis; deuteration
