eng Reactivity of electron-rich heteroborane clusters The chemistry of heteroborane clusters is a well known and developed branch of inorganic chemistry.1 The combination of their stability a plethora of structural patterns described by Wade-Mingos rules makes them a useful tool in modern coordination chemistry with applications ranging from medicine, materials or nuclear waste treatment. For a long time, they were considered to form only neutral and anionic species. The first thermally robust cationic carboranes were prepared from neutral complexes with N-heterocyclic carbenes.2 These complexes exhibit interesting features unlike the classical heteroboranes – they act as bases and react even with very weak acids. They also form novel structural motifs undescribed by Wade-Mingos rules. This work will describe the synthesis of new electron-rich heteroboranes and their reactivity.
