eng Effect of Mobile Phase Composition on Retention Behavior of Metabolites in Bioinert LC Analysis Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry is a powerful and versatile technique widely used in metabolomics for the comprehensive study of small, polar, and ionizable molecules in biological systems. Polar metabolites may contain a chromatographically difficult functional group resulting in poor peak shape and low sensitivity. Bioinert systems with the optimized mobile phase composition can improve the chromatography of metabolites containing phosphate groups.
