eng Novel bipyridine phosphonate coordination polymers as proton conductive materials Here, we present preparation of 3 newly described coordination polymers based on novel bipyridine phosphonate linkers and their use for proton conduction. The 4,4’-bipyridine 3,3’- diphosphonate and 4,4’-bipyridine 3,3’,5,5’-tetraphosphonate linkers were prepared by oxidation of 4,4’-bipyridine to the respective N-oxide followed by deoxygenative phosphorylation. The prepared ligands provided crystalline coordination polymers named ICR-25, ICR-26, and ICR-27, based on Ca2+, Al3+, and Mg2+, respectively. The structures of ICR-25 and ICR-26, which reveal presence of potential voids decorated with protic functional groups, were examined for proton conductivity that reaches values up to 210–4 Scm–1 for ICR-26 at 92% relative humidity and temperature of 306 K.
