eng Organic Two-Photon Absorbers Featuring Push-Pull Arrangement Excitation of an organic pi-system by absorbing two photons of half the energy along with utilization of low-energy infrared laser light sources and intensity-dependent process make the two-photon absorption (2PA) a very attractive phenomenon with perspective applications across optoelectronics and photonics. Hence, organic materials displaying large 2PA activity are of considerable interest, while the vast majority of them possesses a push-pull arrangement with intramolecular chargetransfer (ICT). Besides standard linear and quadrupolar systems, tripodal push-pull chromophores proved to be the most successful organic 2PA absorbers. They mostly adopt either centrifugal D(-pi-A)3 or centripetal A(-pi-D)3 arrangement based on the direction of ICT (D/A = electron-donor/acceptor and pi = conjugated system). Whereas the first class is typically represented by triphenylamine derivatives, centripetal chromophores are rather scarce. In this contribution, we will address fundamental aspects and effect of chromophore branching (linear→quadrupolar→tripodal), variation of the peripheral acceptors/donors, centrifugal/centripetal chromophore arrangement, and solvent effects on the photophysical properties, the 2PA cross-section in particular. push-pull; two-photon absorption; triphenylamine; pyrimidin, triazine
