eng Detection of DNA damages using mercury and solid amalgam electrodes The mercury electrodes can serve as a highly sensitive tool for the detection of DNA strand breaks or as a sensor for DNA cleaving species including chemical or enzymatic nucleases. Formation of single strand breaks can be sensitively detected using AC voltammetry at the scDNA-modified HMDE, m-AgSAE or MF-AgSAE. Covalently closed circular scDNA possessing no free ends does not yield an AC voltammetric peak 3 while DNA molecules involving free ends (open circular or linear ones, representing the product of DNA damage) do.
