eng	Bi2O2Se A prospective thermoelectric material?	Bi2O2Se was synthesized from Bi2Se3 and Bi2O3 by solid state reaction in an evacuated quartz ampoule. The product of the reaction was characterized by X- ray diffraction analysis. In accordance with the literature, it was observed that the prepared samples crystallize in tetragonal type lattice (space group I4mmm - ) with the lattice parameters a = 0.38859 nm, and c = 1.22055 nm. Diffractogramms of the samples exhibit lines of the Bi2O2Se structure only. Polycrystalline samples (dimensions 15×3×3 mm3) for measurements of thermoelectric properties were prepared using hot uniaxial pressing of the powders in rectangular graphite dies. The samples were characterized by the measurements of Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity as a function of temperature. From the experimental data we calculate the thermoelectric figure of merit Z and we discuss its temperature dependence.	chalcogenides;thermoeletric properties
