Following the government measures, in the second week of October university students had to stop attending in-person courses. This brought many complications not only in terms of laboratory courses but also in the context of experimental parts of students’ final qualification theses.

After the students had left, the typical busy life in all educational institutions in our country stopped. Therefore, with undisguised enthusiasm we welcomed our students back at the beginning of December. At our faculty, the students of first year returned to the labs on 7th December. The study of chemistry and biology in all study programmes is based on practical laboratory courses, which are absolutely essential. The restart of laboratory courses in December immediately revived the atmosphere at the faculty. The laboratories were again full of students in white coats diligently working on their tasks. Naturally, the presence of students lifted the mood of academics as well as other employees of the faculty. Their work became meaningful again.

Judging by the students’ approach and activities, they were extremely happy to be back, which their teachers appreciated with an attentive and helpful approach during the classes. In the course of the two weeks before the Christmas holiday, most of the laboratory exercises in all grades took place. If the epidemiological situation allows, the rest of the courses will take place in smaller groups in the first week of January.

We wish all the students the best of success in their exams and credit tests despite the objectively inconvenient situation. At the same time, we wish all the academics and laboratory staff a lot of patience in assessing the students’ learning performance.

We believe that we will all meet again in the New Year and that we will be able to continue our joint training and research activities that thanks to high-quality education raise our society to a level where we can offer valuable scientific findings to benefit the mankind!
