Description:
The project is focused on the fundamental research of the mixed oxides such as Mg-Al and Mg-Fe including their post-treatment to increase their catalytic activity and stability. The mixed oxides will be synthesized from hydrotalcites. The relation between structure/composition and activity/selectivity/stability will be studied in the model reactions: transesterification of oil and Guerbet reaction (the conversion of ethanol to butanol). The results will contribute to the description and prediction of their catalytic behaviour and advanced synthesis. To achieve this, the partial objectives of the project are following: (i) the synthesis of the catalysts including their post-treatment, (ii) the detailed characterization of the structure and composition of the catalysts by various methods, (iii) the determination of the activity/selectivity relation of the synthesized catalysts in the model reactions, (iv) the determination of the relation between the catalyst structure/composition together with the basicity/redox properties and its activity.
