eng Magnetic poly(glycidyl methacrylate) particles with various coatings for on-chip immunocapture of rare cells for diagnosis of cancer relapse Disseminated malignancy is responsible for the vast majority (90%) of cancer-related deaths. During this process, circulating tumour cells (CTCs) are generated and spread from the primary tumour by blood stream, colonize distant organs and lead to overt metastatic disease [1]. CTCs are increasingly used as biomarkers for patients with metastatic cancer as their counts correlate negatively with progression free survival and overall survival. CTCs are rare cells in the blood in numbers as low as one CTC per 106 – 107 leukocytes, which make their capture and detection very challenging [2]. Our work is dedicated to development of magnetic immunosorbent for CTCs immunocapture through epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) in microfluidic device which would enable their detection and subsequent characterisation since CTCs from colorectal, brest, and prostate cancer overexpress this molecule.
