Current efforts are being targeted for the development of a new approach to synthesize the propargyl alcohol connection which is present in alfaprostol molecule. The synthesis should be performed using as starting materials a Corey lactone derivative and 3-cyclohexylpropanal. The stereochemistry of the hydroxyl group should be taken into account during the procedure, once just the (S)-enantiomer is active.
