Series of all-trans push-pull diphenylamino and carbazole derivates of stilbenes with various electron-donating groups was synthesized. The key intermediate was prepared via Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction between appropriate phosphonate and aldehyde containing two bromine atoms. Bulky side substituents were attached to the main backbone via Suzuki-Miyaura coupling using various boronic acids.
