The third week in September usually belongs to Workshop on low dimensional materials held in Liblice. This year 5 members of our group visited this program. Jakub and Mehran presented their posters and flash presentations, Kateřina has regular oral presentations. PDF of their poster are presented here.
During the first september week our group went to Potštejn to follow traditional meeting with quantum chemists from IOCB CAS Prague. We were focused on science (morning), trips and sports (afternoon) and brainstorming (evenings). These meetings are so fruitful!
Kateřina Knotková with Ing. Jana Košťálová were guests on Upce on air https://www.upce.cz/upce-on-air-mentoring-na-upce . They were speaking about their experience with mentoring program.
Hurray! Congratulations to Kateřina for the cooperation and for the publication "The comparison of biological effects of bacterial and synthetic melanins in neuroblastoma cells" published this month in Food and Chemical Toxicology (IF = 4.6; Q1).

A great thing has been done! Going to an away session is always great. One gets away from the lab and can discuss the results and progress of our work in peace and with a clear head. This year we visited Neratov near Bartošovice in the Orlické Hory. We really enjoyed it!
And we also welcomed a new PhD student Waqas, we wish you good luck in your studies.
Congratulations for the publication "The analysis of the BAS OH band in zeolites" published this month in Microporous and Mesoporous Materials (IF = 5.455; Q1).

Conference season continues. We returned to Liblice with another conference. The School of Catalysis conference was here on 24-26 May 2022. Its program was varied (Program-School of catalysis), among those invited were:
-
Determination of textural properties from adsorption experiments, Katharina Peikert (Micromeritics)
-
Catalysis in Fine Chemical Synthesis, Rafael Luque (Universidad de Cordoba, Spain)
-
How to write a good paper, Carlos Melo (Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic)
-
The art of catalyst shaping, Dmitry Murzin (Abo Akademi University, Turku, Finland)
-
Theoretical approaches to catalysis, Gianfranco Pacchioni (University of Milano Bicocca)
-
Performance metrics for sustainable catalysis in industry, Jean-Paul Lange (Shell)
Hurray! Conference season has begun. The first conference we were able to attend was the 5th International Conference on Applied Surface Science on 25 -28 April 2022 in Palma, Mallorca, Spain (ICASS 2022). Our student Jakub Halamek gave a presentation on "Effect of differing Si/Al on adsorption and separation of CH4/CO2 over Na-CHA zeolites".

Hurrah, in great competition, our team received financial support (10.2 M CZK) from the Czech Science Foundation for project No. 22-23120S entitled "Boron-containing catalysts for the oxidative dehydrogenation of alkanes". Together with colleagues from IOCHB CAS, we will study the activation of propane and its conversion to propene on inorganic materials containing boron for three years.
It is almost Christmas, so it is time for gingerbreads! Like every year we made some pieces of gingerbreads and had a lot of fun. Look at the results.
Here is the recipe: 400g fine flour, 140g sugar (powdered), 50 g butter, 2 eggs, 2 spoons of honey (liquid one), 1 small spoon of baking soda, 1 small spoon of gingerbread spice, 1 yolk (for applying after baking). Mix all dry ingredients together, put there the rest of them and make by the hand (or machine) soft dough. The final dough is soft and flexible like plasticine. Wrap it in plastic foil and keep it in the fridge overnight. The next day, set the oven to 160°C, put the baking paper on a metal plate. The dough roll our to 0.5 cm thickness, cut the shape, and put it on the metal plate. Bake it for 2-10 minutes and then apply the yolk solution (1 yolk + 1 spoon of water) for shine.
Unfortunately the last conference! It was our pleasure to be again in Liblice Castel on October 24-26, 2021 (Workshop on Zeolites, https://workshop2020.katalyza.cz/).
We met in the conference a lot of nice people with an interest in science. The level of presentation was very high, also nice was the poster section with a short presentation to invite to the poster and the final discussion on problems and improves of synthesis, characterization, and industry application.
Conferences autumn started! On October 4-6, 2021 we are again in wonderful chateau Liblice (School of Catalysis,https://school.katalyza.cz/)
