Past and Present of the Department

Department of Graphic Arts and Photophysics was established at the then College of Chemical Technology in 1984 and Graphic Arts were one of specializations of the Chemistry and Technology of Wood, Fibrous Materials and Composites, a four-year university degree study. In 1992, in connection with the reversion to a five-year study and change in focus on the separate field of Graphic Arts and Printing Technology, there was a substantial change in the study programme of the discipline. In 1994, a three-year Bachelor's degree study of Graphic Arts and Printing Technology was opened up. Nowadays, it is possible to study the Bachelor's degree programme as well as the Master's programme of Graphic Arts and Printing Technology at the Department. Both programs were in 2019 newly accredited for the next 10 years.

The research work of the Department is focused on research of materials in various fields which include both basic and applied research. Details can be found here.

The Department is actively involved in international cooperation with similar institutions abroad, both in research as well as exchange programs of students and academic staff. Details can be found here.

The Department is building a testing laboratory for printing and printed materials, provides maintenance services for the printing industry in terms of evaluation and analysis of the characteristics of printing materials and characteristics of printed materials. Along with the professional printing library, the Department of Graphic Arts and Photophysics offers information services to those interested in the field of printing. The library is open to all interested parties from the printing industry.
