eng 3-Phenoxy-1,2,4-dithiazol-5-ones as novel sulfurizing agents for phosphorus(III) compounds A number of reagents have been designed and tested for the sulfurization of phosphorus(III) compounds from which those based on 1,2,4-dithiazole skeleton appear to be advantageous alternative to existing sulfurizing reagents. In our previous work we have tested sulfurizing efficiency of various known 1,2,4-dithiazoles by kinetic method and we have found 5-ethoxy-1,2,4-dithiazol-3-one (1) to be the most powerful but rather unstable agent. In our present work we have prepared and characterized analogous 5-(3- and 4-substituted phenoxy) derivatives 8 and tested their sulfurizing efficiency towards triphenyl phosphite. It was found that 5-phenoxy-1,2,4-dithiazol-3-ones (8) are completely stable on air at room temperature and their reactivity with triphenyl phosphite is comparable with 1. Detailed mechanism of sulfur transfer will be also discussed.
