eng Modern Trends in Instrumentation for Capillary Electromigration Techniques: From Multidimensional Separations to Extraterrestrial Analyzers Electromigration separation techniques in capillary format represent wide group of analytical techniques suitable for analysis of both inorganic and organic compounds - from non-polar to ionic and/or ionizable analytes. These techniques are generally based on differences of migration velocities of analytes presented in solution filled into the separation capillary with electric field applied across the capillary. The movement of analytes in electric field can be induced either by own mobilities of charged analytes or by selective interactions of non-charged analytes with additives forming charged complexes. Nowadays, CZE and MEKC are widely applied techniques for the analyses of inorganic ions or low molar mass organic compounds. The ongoing research in instrumental improvements of these techniques is reviewed. An overview of the general trends and some of the most remarkable advances in the areas of separation systems and detectors is presented and illustrated with the most common applications.
