eng	Novel possible ways of modulation of systemic inflammation	In patients with coronary stenosis lower levels of b-carotene and a-tocopherol coincided with higher level of inflammation. The inverse correlation between b-carotene and IL-6 (correlation coefficient 0.28, p<0.05) was found in patients with CAD. B-carotene was inversely proportional also to hsCRP, MDA, free radicals, but the differences did not reach significancy. The inverse relation indicates potential protective effect of b-carotene on atherosclerosis due inhibition of inflammatory processes.	beta-carotene; inflammation
