eng Screening of Volatile Compounds in Herbal Teas by HS-SPME/GC-MS Using Two Temperatures in the Same Extraction Procedure In this study, a sampling approach based on the use of two extraction temperatures in the same headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) procedure is described for the extraction of the volatile compounds of herbal tea samples followed by separation/detection of target compounds by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). As an analytical tool, experimental designs were used for the optimization. The variables extraction time, extraction temperature and percentage of sodium chloride saturation in water were optimised using a five-level fractional central composite design with CAR/DVB/PDMS fibre. Response surfaces were constructed, allowing the establishment of compromise conditions under which the temperatures could achieve a much better extraction and allow the identification of more volatile and semi-volatile compounds. It was confirmed that the proposed method presented better results considering the response in terms of the arithmetic means of the peak areas. The proposed method was compared to conventional method based on sorption at a single extraction temperature. Essential Oils; SPME; Two-Temperature Sorption Approach; Herbal Tea
