eng Application of SPME-GC/MS for Identification of Volatile Organic Compounds in Roses In the report, headspace solid phase microextraction combined with capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS) has been applied for the identification of compounds in the rose petals (Rosa Maryo, Rosa Tara, Rosa Samara, Rosa Rhodos, Rosa Sudoku, Rosa Incredible, Rosa deep Purple, and Rosa Taccazi) after pre-processing (milling of the petals using a grinder). Two SPME fibres (DVB/CAR/PDMS and PDMS) were optimized at the chosen parameters: the time of extraction (20; 40 and 60 min), the temperature of extraction (50; 70 and 90 °C) and the sample weight (0.3; 0.5 and 0.7 g). The statistical results showed that DVB/CAR/PDMS was better for sorption of volatile compounds at lower temperatures and PDMS fibre for semi-volatile substances at higher temperatures. For both fibres the same optimum conditions applied: the extraction time was minutes, the temperature of extraction was 70 °C and the sample weight was 0.7 g. Rosa Species; SPME; GC/MS
