eng Study of polymerization and mechanical properties of hybrid systems The aim of this work was to study the polymerization reactions of hybrid systems (polymerizing by free radical and cationic polymerization simultaneously) and to compare them with systems polymerizing by only free radical or cationic polymerization. Hybrid systems were prepared from free radical photoinitiatorDarocure 1173, cationicphotoinitiatorIrgacure 250and various radical and cationic monomers (3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexane carboxylate, bis[1-ethyl(3-oxetanyl)]methyl ether, pentaerythritoltriacrylate andBomar XDT-1018 – thioetheracrylate dendritic oligomer). The molar ratio of monomers in hybrid systems was 1:1, 1:3 and 3:1. Concentration of photoinitiator was 3 mol% in all cases. The degree of conversion was evaluated based on results obtained from FTIR spectroscopy. The results, dependingon hybrid system composition, show different behaviour. For example, for hybrid system consisted ofacrylate monomer pentaerythritoltriacrylate and 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3,4-epoxycyclo-hexane carboxylate, the conversion of epoxide monomer was very similar in all samples (up to 5 %). Compared to this, conversion of acrylate monomer increased with increasing content of epoxide monomer in hybrid samples (difference up to 20 %). radical polymerization; cationic polymerization; hybrid polymerization
