eng Synthesis and characterization of zinc oxide colloids with tuneable luminescence Zinc oxide is a versatile material with many applications in paints, rubber products, cosmetics, printing inks, batteries, etc. [1]. The interest in this compound lies in its unusual electrical, thermal and optical properties. This research is aimed at the synthesis and characterization of ZnO colloids with tuneable luminescence which strongly depends on the method of preparation. The presented procedure of ZnO synthesis uses two steps. First step is the precursor preparation by reacting of zinc acetate (Zn(OAc)2) with ethanol by sol-gel method. Second step is the condensation process of the precursor with lithium hydroxide (LiOH) to form the ZnO colloid. Such colloids do not consist of pure ZnO nanoparticles but contain acetate groups as well. The set of colloids studied in this work uses for condensation various concentrations of LiOH to which the precursor solution was added (the precursor solution was in all cases 25 mM). The condensation resulted in different emission colours of the obtained ZnO colloids as observed by fluorescence measurements under UV light excitation. The optical properties were further studied via UV-VIS spectrophotometry. The particle sizes were analysed using atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results show shift of the band-gap and photoluminescence emission spectra according to Zn(OAc)2/LiOH ratio changes. [1] Fan, Z. and J.G. Lu, Zinc Oxide Nanostructures: Synthesis and Properties.
