eng DRYING ACTIVITY OF BENZOYL FERROCENE IN SOLVENT-BORNE ALKYD RESIN The aim of this study is to investigate drying activity of recently developed iron-based drier Bz1Fc in solvent-borne alkyd resin modified with soybean oil. Mechanic tests performed at test coatings show excellent drying activity of Bz1Fc. At metal concentration 0.03 wt.%, drying times near the values observed for commertial cobalt(II) 2-ethylhexanoate at concentration recommended by supplier (0.1 wt.%). Kinetics of the autoxidation process was studied by time-resolved infrared spectroscopy. Profiling done by ATR technique revealed the optimal rate of autoxidation up to ~100 mm wet thickness. In thicker layers, the rate of autoxidation process depends on the distance from the top surface. ferrocene; alkyd; autoxidation
