eng Linear gratings in chalcogenide glass thin films prepared via hot embossing Chalcogenide glasses are amorphous materials formed by group 16 elements excluding oxygen, together with more electropositive elements such as As, Ge, Sb and many others. Compared to commonly used oxide glasses chalcogenide glasses posses a number of unique properties such as higher refractive index (typically 2.2 – 3), wider IR transparency window or lower structural rigidity. Lower structural rigidity also results in relatively low values of glass transition temperature (Tg) in comparison with common oxide glasses. This allows for the hot embossing technique to be utilized for corrugating the chalcogenide glasses surface at conveniently low temperatures giving us the opportunity to use soft polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamp. Although the soft PDMS stamps are relatively easily damaged by applying excessive force and/or temperature they are cheaper for preparation which can be carried out repeatedly from one master.
