eng COMPARISON OF DEGRADATION OF THE CHLORINATED MORDANT BLUE 9 DYE IN WATER SOLUTIONS BY CHEMICAL OXIDATION AND REDUCTION In this work efficiencies of chemical degradation of chlorinated dye Mordant Blue 9 are compared and consumptions of applied reagents for Fenton effective oxidation and hydrodehalogenation. The content of Mordant Blue 9 dye was determined using VIS spectroscopy, content of organic compounds in solution was quantified by chemical oxygen demand (COD) parameter measurement and content of chlorinated compounds by AOX determination. Structures of reduction products was determined by LC-MS analysis. Influence of quantity of Fenton reagents on dye oxidation efficiency was studied to optimize operational conditions: H2O2 dosage, Fe2+ dosage and optimal dye/[Fe2+]/[H2O2] ratio. In addition, the aim of this study is to investigate the applicability of zero valent iron, aluminium, aluminium–nickel alloy and bisulfite-catalyzed reduction by sodium borohydride for dehalogenation of Mordant Blue 9 dye to readily biodegradable products. The economy of reductive treatment to the readily biodegradable products was compared with Fenton oxidation Mordant Blue 9; oxidation; reduction
