eng DINUCLEAR BIGUANIDE(2-) COMPLEXES OF MAIN GROUP METALS In the quest for obtaining novel compounds with unique properties, the demand for competent ligands arises. Easily accessible N,N’-chelating guanidinates offer great steric configurability of their planar N3C moiety and, thanks to interchangeable stable resonance forms, also electronic versatility.1 In addition, the possibility to accommodate two different metals with variable HSAB properties creating systems usable for homogeneous catalysis and relative lack of dianionic guanidinate or biguanide complexes in the literature make this an interesting topic of research.1,2 Modification of the existing N3C core by introducing additional donor atoms led to a conjugated N5C2 system resembling biguanide3, which upon treatment with aluminum, magnesium and zinc reagents afforded dinuclear complexes bearing dianionic biguanide-like4 ligand. Here we present a structural study of newly synthesized dianionic complexes and describe the coordination modes of bimetallic biguanides(2-).
