eng EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF THE INITIAL DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF STEEL PLATE UNDER EXPLOSIVE LOADING The response of thin metal plates to blast loading from the nearby detonation of explosive charges is of considerable relevance in protective engineering applications. In this study, we present initial experimental results for S235 steel plates with square loaded areas of 440 × 440 mm and 700 × 700 mm. The plates were mounted horizontally on supporting steel frames, while explosive charges were suspended above their centers at stand-off distances between 50 cm and 150 cm. The charge mass was selected to avoid permanent deformation. Plate velocity at the center was measured, and piezoelectric pins were employed to provide independent validation of the deformation. Numerical simulations were performed to elucidate the significant differences observed between velocity profiles at the center and in its close vicinity. The primary objective of these trials was to assess the reliability of photonic Doppler velocimetry (PDV) for deformation tracking and to examine its capability to deliver improved temporal resolution during the initial stages of plate motion. The resulting data are intended to support model validation under localized blast loading conditions governed by charge size and stand-off distance. steel plate; blast loading; PDV; explosive
