eng Multinuclear Main Group Element Complexes of a Substituted Biguanide The focus on main group elements as a replacement for transition metal-based systems has been intensifying in the past years. The emerging task to develop suitable ligands led to an intensive research of carbene, terphenyl, trisyl, cyclopentadienyl and, from the class of N-donors, β diketiminate, amidinate and guanidinate ligands. In contrast, the chemistry of biguanides and dianionic guanidinates or biguanides has been far less developed.1, 2 Our research in recent years employed several amidinate, guanidinate and finally also biguanide chelating species. This effort led to the utilization of a capable ligand platform for controlled structural arrangement of multimetallic guanidinate/biguanide complexes. A series of monometallic and homobimetallic complexes will be discussed together with the possible structural arrangements of the ligand. The preparation of heterobimetallic species will be shown in detail with the focus on the reaction mechanism, NMR and structural parameters and the behavior of titled compounds in catalysis of ring-opening polymerization3 and hydroelementation reactions.
