eng The removing of free fatty acids from biodiesel This work is focused on removing of free fatty acids from the ester phase. The transesterification (homogeneous KOH catalyst) was stopped by neutralization of catalyst by phosphoric acid added into whole reaction mixture. The advantage is very easy and fast separation (minutes), zero content of potassium and free glycerol in the ester phase, and relative high purity of glycerol in the glycerol phase (86-90 wt.%). The disadvantage is formed free fatty acids from soaps, which increase the acid number. The fatty acids were removed by adding of calcium hydroxide and formed solid calcium soaps were removed by centrifugation. The conditions (independent variables) of removing of free fatty acids such as acid number of the input ester phase, molar ratio of calcium to FFA, addition of water were study. The relationship between independent and dependent variables (acid number, amount of calcium ions and water of the EP) was found and described by multidimensional linear regression. The evaluation was performed using a linear model QC-Expert program. The negative correlation between calcium and water content can be reason so high content of water in the EP, because low calcium content. biodiesel; fatty acid; removing
