eng Preparation, Characterization and Electrochemical Applications of Electrodes Modified by Metal Particles with the Use of Mediator or Funcionalized Polysiloxanes Nowadays, the rapid development of modified carbon electrodes is observed because of their advantages including simple design and operation, reasonable selectivity, fast response, applicability to coloured and turbid solutions. The use of such electrodes can provide fast and direct methods of electrochemical analysis. The modification can result from the bulk or surface modification of a conductive material to produce an electrode suited to a particular application. The sol-gel method is one of the most versatile approaches providing the incorporation of specific functions and/or molecules for the chemical recognition of heavy metal ions. Silica-based organic-inorganic hybrids (particularly those based on functionalized polysiloxanes) have been used for determination of metal ions. Herein, we report on the preparation and characterization of the glassy carbon electrode covered with thiol-functionalized polysiloxane film modified with lead. The obtained materials have been characterized by broad range of instrumental techniques including, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, FTIR and NMR spectroscopy, and nitrogen sorption measurements. The influence of thiol-functionalized polysiloxane films modified with lead on the voltammetric response of the glassy carbon electrode has been also studied. To prove the applicability of the proposed functionalization method, the electrodes has been tested for voltammetric determination of Hg(II). The obtained results testifies that obtained glassy carbon electrode covered with thiol-functionalized polysiloxane film modified with lead can be successfully applied for the determination of Hg(II) ions.
