eng X-Shaped Push-Pull Molecules Nowadays, arrangement of organic push-pull molecules is very miscellaneous. Many D-pi-A systems (D = electron donor, pi = conjugated bridge and A = acceptor) adopt a shape more or less resembling letters of the alphabet. Among these, X-shaped molecules represents one of the most interesting class of pi-conjugated molecules. In such compounds, intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) from the donor to the acceptor via a pi-system takes place and the D-pi-A system become dipolar/polarized and gain peculiar optical properties. We have recently focused on design, preparation and further application of X-shaped molecules based on either aromates or heteroaromates. 1,2,4,5-Tetrasubstitued benzene or 2,3,5,6-tetrasubstitued pyrazine turned out to be very useful central units for construction of such molecules. Two cyano groups were used as electron withdrawing groups gaining access to two novel electron acceptor units - DiCyanoBenzene (DCB) and DiCyanoPyrazine (DCP). Further property tuning has been achieved via modification of the pi-system as well as by altering the electron donor. Molecules 1 and 2 were applied as very efficient and tunable NLOphores. Moreover, properly tuned molecule 3 showed very interesting photoredox properties and has been utilized as very efficient visible light photoredox catalyst. Catalyst 3 has been applied in various transformations such as cross-dehydrogenative coupling etc. Dicyanobenzene, Dicyanopyrazine, NLO, cross-coupling, intramolecular charge-transfer
