eng Autoxidation of Alkyd Resins Catalyzed by Oxovanadium(IV) Acetylacetonate and Its Derivatives This work is focused on derivatives of [VO(acac)2] bearing benzyl substituents, namely [VO(3-Bz-acac)2] and [VO(3-(4-MeOBz-acac)2]. These compounds have been prepared and characterized by the spectroscopic methods and the X-ray crystallography. Their catalytic activity was investigated on solvent-borne alkyd resins modified with soybean oil. The detailed study of the drying process reveals their excellent performance at considerably lower concentrations than usual for commercial cobalt-based driers. Furthermore, the modified compounds show lower sensitivity to precise dosage that helps to avoid the overdose effects observed for cobalt-based drier currently used in paint producing industry. alkyd; drier; vanadium
