eng Alphabet-Inspired Arrangement of (Hetero)Aromatic Push-Pull Molecules Due to their peculiar properties, push-pull molecules steadily attract attention of organic and material chemists. Well-established property tuning of D-pi-A systems involves alternation of the particular D, pi, and A parts. However, a general arrangement of the molecule represents also an important aspect. Beside common linear, quadrupolar, and octupolar D-pi-A systems, we have developed push-pull molecules with extraordinary arrangements inspired by letters of the alphabet. In particular, we focused on Y-, X-, and T-shaped push-pull chromophores based on central (hetero)aromatic scaffolds such as imidazole, triphenyl(pyridyl)amine, diazines, dicyanobenzene(pyrazine), and indan-1,3-dione. The contribution will focus on design, synthesis, fundamental properties, and perspective applications of the aforementioned aromates.
