eng Synthetic pathways towards fused pyrazine derivatives Pyrazine derivatives are well-known six membered aromatic heterocyclic compounds bearing two nitrogen atoms. To this day, several methods enabling synthesis of pyrazine are known. The most popular method utilized in construction of pyrazine ring involves condensation of 1,2-diamines with 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds (benzils). Hence, as a part of our ongoing research activity, we have explored a condensation reaction of 1,2-diamines (especially diaminomaleonitrile) with planar 1,2-diketones such as for example phenantrene-9,10-quinone or benzo[1,2-b;4,3-b´]dithiophene-4,5-quinonone). Variety of solvents, catalysts, bases and acids were screened in these condensations to probe their feasibility.
