eng Adsorptive separation of C4 hydrocarbons using the IPC-4 zeolite synthesized by the ADOR process In this work, several batches of IPC-4 zeolite synthesized by the ADOR process (“Assembly-Disassembly-Organization-Reassembly”) were studied as adsorbents for C4 hydrocarbon separation. Their performance was evaluated by the measurement of single-component volumetric adsorption isotherms. It was found that while the smaller trans-2-butene and 1-butene (only partially) molecules were clearly adsorbed by the samples, the other C4 hydrocarbons with larger molecules were excluded from their pore system. The mechanism of the differences in adsorption uptakes was further investigated by FTIR spectroscopy and QM/MM calculations, whereby it was concluded that the presence of large concentration of defects in the IPC-4 pores is the likely reason for the separation effect.
