eng Can an aurophilic interaction occur in d8 complexes or is this short contact enforced by formation of a ring only? Isoindole and its derivatives already found application in multiple fields of chemistry. Among others use as pharmaceuticals or resistant pigments can be mentioned. A group of unsymmetrically substituted diiminoisoindoles was prepared and the coordination abilities of these ligands were systematically investigated. It was possible to prepare a wide range of six-membered metallacyclic compounds with different binding modes. An interesting group of prepared compounds are coinage metal complexes. These dimeric complexes contain unusually short metallophilic interactions between copper and silver atoms in their structure. Counterintuitively, unusually short metal-metal distances have also been reported in the case of gold(III) complexes. We can therefore assume that even in these complexes a weak aurophilic interaction can occur within the metallacycle. This phenomenon has already been described and discussed several times in the literature, but not fully proven or understood. That is also why this important interaction is the subject of further experimental and computational research.
