eng Physico-Chemical Changes in Boron Nitride Catalysts via Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane In this research, hexagonal BN (h-BN) were treated under different conditions to study the physico-chemical changes taking place in h-BN and their kinetics. Catalysts were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), FT-IR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm, to obtain details on crystallinity, chemical analysis, surface chemistry, skeletal vibration and textural properties. At the same time, catalytic activity and selectivity in ODH of propane was measured for all treatments. The obtained results showed a substitution of nitrogen atoms by oxygen atoms under the reaction atmosphere which proceeds with TOS. This substitution occurred on the surface as well as the bulk during the first 5 hours, but after that it slowed down on the surface whereas it continued in the bulk. This observation disclosed that oxidation take place not only on the surface, but also inside the bulk. The structure remained almost intact even during the longest time on stream for 10 hours. The diffraction lines corresponding to the presence of B2O3 occurred in the XRD patterns of samples treated under the reaction atmosphere after 1 hour. It was accompanied by the decrease in surface area and total pore volume. Results indicate that amount of BOx moieties correlates with the catalytic performance of the pre-treated samples. More details about kinetics of the generation of BOx moieties will be discussed later in this contribution. catalysts; oxidative dehydrogenation; propane; boron nitride
