eng Antimicrobial Testing of Potential Materials in Healthcare Non‐healing wounds are a serious social and economic problem for patients worldwide [1]. A biopolymer for wound dressing applications such as hyaluronic acid (HA) has a supportive effect in wound care [2]. In the present study, we focus on the antimicrobial activity of materials from staple microfibers of hyaluronic acid and oxidized starch in combination with acidifying compounds or with the addition of silver. We determined the diameter of the inhibition zones around the sample. The sensitivity of selected bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus) and yeast (Candida albicans) to the tested materials is also determined. For antimicrobial susceptibility testing, we use an agar diffusion assay. The evaluation of this test is based on the ability of the covering materials to inhibit bacterial growth under and around the sample. The results of this study suggest that HA-starch-based materials with acidifying addition may prove beneficial in minimizing bacterial contamination of wounds. antimicrobial activity; hyaluronic acid; starch; materials in healthcare
